Last year, I spoke with Fleetsmith, CEO Zack Blum about how they automatically manage apps, settings, and security preferences across a company’s Apple Mac fleet. The company also offers fleet-wide upgrades to macOS with one click.

Founded by former IT and security leaders from Dropbox and Wikia, Fleetsmith combines world-class product and security engineering with a powerful, intuitive interface that makes advanced Mac management available for everyone.

In the last episode, we talked about how adding disk encryption and firewalls be centrally managed to ensure that MACS are compliant in the same way IT departments look after those on a windows environment.

The problem Fleetsmith set out to solve was that traditional mac management solutions are difficult to try before buying, overly complicated, and require dedicated IT and security resources.

Fleetsmith was founded to address these long-standing frustrations with existing laptop management products. Having already gone through the journey of being labeled as a stealth startup, I wanted to check-in with Zach Blum to see how the company are progressing.

We discuss how Fleetsmith has added new security features for SMBs and making a significant change to their business model to make Mac laptop management accessible to small companies.

The introduction of Fleetsmith Free along with the new Security & DevOps catalog apps that are aimed at solving the most critical IT and security pain points for anyone in charge of company Macs. Zach also discusses why obtaining the EU-U.S. Privacy Shield framework certificate is a big deal for Fleetsmith.

“Secure by Design” is a core value at Fleetsmith, and is reflected in everything they do. It means that security is not an afterthought, but an inherent part of our company and how we build product—it touches every part of our product and engineering development processes.
