German company Brewbarrel had a fantastic idea to deliver a product that would allow customers to enjoy their home brewed beer in just one week after receiving the package. The bonus of being able to reate your customized beer from over 100,000 different varieties has universal appeal and already a big hit in Europe.

This simple concept went from idea to thriving business thanks to a Kickstarter campaign. I invited Wolfgang and Marc onto the show from Brewbarrel to discuss their startup journey and where it is taking them to next.

Award Nomination

The New Media Europe Awards surprised me with an "Influencer Award" nomination. I find myself in the same category as heavyweights such as Tim Ferris, Gary Vaynerchuk, and Chris Ducker, which blows my mind.

In the days before crowdfunding was even a thing, Naked Wines were connecting their Angels (consumers) directly with the world's best independent winemakers.

We get everything from supermarkets and it's easy to see how many believe we have disconnected from the world around us. We don’t know or care where our food, clothes, and even wine come from. Naked Wines are using technology to change all that.

There are currently 300,000 Angels investing every month, 130 winemakers across the US, Australia and New Zealand in full-time production just making wine for Naked Wines. As sales hit £100 million a year, I discovered that we are just scratching the surface with this amazing story.

I invited Marketing Director James Bagley and President of Naked Wines Anne Saunders to share their story.

When we strip their story back to discover it’s not about technology, million dollar funding or even wine but an idea and a desire to bring people together and make a difference.

I chat with KYON CEO, Leon Yohai about every step of his startup journey from a simple idea to smashing past their Kickstarter target and flying around the world sourcing materials to get it made.

What is the Kyon Pet Collar?

Imagine having a mobile app on your phone that contains everything about your dog including vet appointments etc. Now take it a step further and imagine your pets collar communicating with your phone to alert when they are hot, thirsty, cold or even a GPS tracker if they get lost.

Austin McChord is the CEO and Founder of Datto and famously declined a $100 million buyout offer from an unnamed security firm back in 2013

Upon reading his quote “My ultimate goal is to build a big, meaningful, iconic technology company. That’s what drives me,” I felt compelled to invite him onto the show to talk about his startup journey and life at Datto.

As ransomware infections and spear phishing attacks become too familiar, online security is finally being talked about in boardrooms.

Last week I learned how Invincea discovered how ransomware developers are adding a DDoS component that uses an infected machine to attack its own network.

I also learned how Dell uses Invincea on all Its devices and how they have also created secure enterprise endpoint devices by combining deep learning with behavioral monitoring. So I invited Anup Ghosh, CEO of Invincea onto the show.

We are living in the digital sharing economy and where anyone can see an idea turn into a million dollar start-up. Knocki for example hit Kickstarter aiming for $35,000 this week and 24 hours raised 300,000 as I record this episode.

BUT what about the venture capitalists who are looking for the best ideas to invest in? How do you get your idea in front of them?

New Enterprise Associates is a global venture capital firm helping entrepreneurs build transformational businesses across multiple stages and sectors.

I invited General Partner Harry Weller onto the show who is one of America’s top venture capitalists with honors including being the Forbes “Midas List” nine years running.

But I wanted to learn more about his passion for technology, his journey and how he enjoys helping others on theirs.

Harry has a wealth of experience in the tech industry and he has enough stories for 10 podcasts, but it’s a massive privilege to get him on here for the first time.

I recently learned how Vivino has become the  most downloaded app for wine lovers with over 17 over million users. The app contains the world's largest wine library with over 8.6 million wines and users scan 300,000 wines daily.

No more pacing up and down a wall of wine in the supermarket, simply point your smartphone at any bottle to see a review. Many have dubbed it the "Shazam of wine apps" so I invited CEO Heini Zachariassen onto the show to find out more.

Paula Long sold the first company she co-founded, EqualLogic, to Dell
for $1.4 billion in 2008 — To put things into perspective this is more than what Facebook
paid for Instagram.

She is CEO and Co-Founder of DataGravity, a company that provides data-aware storage for businesses that allows them to look inside their content and discover insights to drive their business forward. DataGravity is revolutionizing storage and data management by
combining primary storage, data protection, governance, search and discovery into an
integrated appliance.

With IT Ecosystems and Cyber Security hitting the headlines on a regular basis, I invited
Paula onto the show to hear her thoughts on the industry and to my delight she said yes.

I am fascinated by how businesses can enable & activate a change or innovation culture. In a world of constant technological change, why do so many fear and resist it? What is the secret to change leadership?

I invited Chris Laping onto the show to discuss how Putting People Before Things can drive successful change.

Clients include The Walt Disney Company and Converse to name but few and claim to increase sales by 20 percent. With an equally as impressive financial backing from Battery Ventures,Hasso Plattner Ventures, Intel Capital and Nike, it's clear this story is one to watch very closely.
